How else do you kick off a new season of art and making friends – leaves make the most sense to us! Beautifully coloured and abundantly available for free, leaves were the perfect addition to our first art group of the 2019/2020 season.

With varying textures and shapes, hues and sizes, we collected bags of fallen leaves and gathered our art supplies. Seated in front of a large window to soak in the setting Autumn sun, we welcomed new friends. Our main goal at Elijah Place is to offer a warm and safe place for special needs families to connect while their children explore the world around them through art. And when we live in such a lovely part of the world, we are constantly inspired.

Some of us used chalk pastels to trace the leaves, while others painted them and used them as stamps. No matter how we experimented, each piece created was unique and magnificent. Art programs for special needs children are a great way for these children to express themselves and to connect with others. Each image produced is an extension of themselves.

It was a simple craft on a clear fall afternoon and the best way we possibly could have imagined to kick-off our new school year filled with hope and new friends.
